The first consideration is how close you want to be to where you’re studying. You may be tempted to live further away in an area that’s perhaps cheaper or offers better leisure activities, but it’s worth thinking it through. For example, you may think that cycling into university will be good for your fitness. Unfortunately, this may not seem so appealing when it’s raining on a Monday morning and you have a lecture at 9 AM. You should also think about the public transport links, factoring in how much this will cost you to use regularly.
You will also want to look at the area itself. Does it have all the facilities you will need, such as a supermarket, nearby? Does the area feel like it would be safe to walk through after a night out? It’s also nice to be within walking distance of the places where you will be going out to most, because this will avoid the need to leave early to catch the last bus or pay an expensive taxi fare.
