What are the best student areas in Chester?

While Chester has a number of areas to choose from, some are particularly popular with students due to their proximity to the university campuses and their lively student atmosphere. Here are some of the main options.

If you’re studying at the Exton Park Campus off Parkgate Road, you might want to consider living just a short walk away in student accommodation in the Garden Quarter to the north of the city centre. Accommodation here is mostly clustered around Garden Lane, which is colloquially referred to as “The Lane”. Garden Lane itself offers a number of amenities, such as barbers and hairdressers, dry cleaners, convenience stores, takeaways and pubs; it’s one of those places where there’s always something going on.

What’s more, the city centre is only a five-minute stroll away if you need something that you can’t get locally or if you just want to enjoy the vibrant nightlife in Chester. When you live near the city centre, you’ll also easily be able to take a walk along the Roman walls, the Chester Canal, or River Dee and maybe even pop in for a pint at one of the many pubs.

Going a little further afield, but still an easy walk to the city centre, Hoole is a vibrant suburb with a community spirit. It’s close to the Creative Campus, Kingsway, so anyone studying there can spend a little longer in bed in the morning. The high street has plenty of shops, cafés, restaurants and pubs to choose from, and street festivals take place all year round.
