The Most Romantic Places in Chester

Whether you’re celebrating Valentine's Day with a partner, the gals, or purely dedicating some time to self-love - Chester is the perfect city for it. Its small, quaint look and rich medieval history make Chester an intimate and picturesque place to celebrate all things love.

And with the big day just around the corner, we thought it only right to dedicate a blog post to showing you the most romantic places in Chester. So, without further ado…

  1. Chester Cathedral

There’s something magical about old buildings. Maybe it’s walking over the steps of the past, learning about history, or the grand architecture. Either way, a trip to Chester Cathedral always leaves you enchanted, and that’s why it’s made a place on this list.

The Cathedral offers Cathedral Tours and Tower Tours (which gives you a unique and breathtaking view of the city). There are also different events on depending when you go. On February 14th, Gaia by Night (a touring artwork by artist Luke Jerram) will be making an appearance at the Cathedral - and it’s quite the sight! Tickets must be booked in advance.

  1. The River

There’s nothing more romantic than a boat ride along the river. And with Snugbury’s right by the dock, you can grab a hot chocolate to sip on whilst your significant other is oh so kindly rowing you down the scenic waters of Chester. We think it's more romantic in February especially - keeping wrapped up in big coats and scarves, with red-tipped noses and icy breath. It’s giving winter rom-com - and we’re here for it.

And with The Boathouse just on the shore - with its fairy lights and cosy outdoor booths - it's the perfect place to settle down for a romantic Valentine’s meal and a bottle of wine.

  1. Food & Drink

Italian food is the food of love and we can not be convinced otherwise. Chester has a great selection of independent Italian restaurants, such as La Fattoria on Bridge Street, Paccinnos in Newtown and Sergios, just opposite The Botanist (which is a fab place for cocktails).

Speaking of cocktails, one of our favourite places to cosy down for a romantic drink or two is definitely Prohibition on Watergate Street. It’s a speakeasy-style bar; all secretive and low-light, and perfect for Valentine’s. Bars with the same vibe (and conveniently, on the same street) are Craft and Company (a specialist gin bar) and Liquor & Co (which is more whiskey inclined). If you pop by Liquor & Co, try asking for the Caretaker and see what happens. Trust us.

Whatever you decide to do this Valentine’s, we hope you have a lovely time celebrating!
